myofascial release (MFR)
Myofascial Release is a process of engaging the fascia, strong connective tissue that runs throughout our entire bodies like a web. This fascia surrounds every muscle, muscle fiber, and down to the cellular level. Throughout our lives, whether through trauma or repetitive action, restrictions in the fascia can create a “sticking” to our movement, causing pain and effecting our daily lives. Releasing restrictions in these areas lets the body move in a fluid and balanced way, relieving discomfort.
This is more of a structural form of bodywork, with a heavy focus on pelvic balancing. As the fulcrum of the body, the hips must be balanced for any other bodywork to “hold”. If the hips go unbalanced, any work done in other areas can start to fade quickly, as the tensile nature of the body starts to pull it back out of balance. We work towards balancing the base so that what is stacked on top of it doesn’t tip!
Pressure can range from light to deep, with the hope of staying on the lighter side. Trauma that has been around a while can be painful and difficult to let go of. So it is with the body as well. Occasionally treatment can feel a little painful, but I always try use the least amount of pressure necessary.
